Provost commends NCCE for Curriculum Framework Review

The Provost of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Dr. Dan Anyanwu has praised the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) for the review of the 2012 Curriculum implementation framework for Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).

D. Anyanwu made this commendation during a workshop organised in the College by the NCCE. The Provost who was represented by the Deputy Provost, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Lemchi, noted that for a better performance in the job of producing teachers, the curriculum needs regular updates capable of addressing and adjusting to the challenges and needs of the times. He therefore commended NCCE for being alive to this critical responsibility.

The Provost reiterated the College core mandate of producing relevant, focused and productive teachers for the nation’s educational sector, while stating that the institution will continue to produce teachers with requisite knowledge, skill and character.

He therefore charged participants and those saddled with the mandate to work assiduously to produce a document that will meet the collective needs of the people in line with global best practices.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arch Sonny Etohi who was represented by Dr. Vitalis Kareem, explained that the review is highly expedient to place our institutions in global competitiveness. He explained that the essence of the review is to harmonise the content of the curriculum of colleges of education irrespective of if they are private, state and federal institutions.He described the review as germane.

The workshop was attended by participants from Colleges of Education across the country, Provosts, Deputy Provost, Registrars, labour unions and stakeholders from the education sector.
